How We Remember Project : Donegal County Council Public Art Office was awarded a grant from the EU PEACE III Programme for the project How We Remember.


'How We Remember' Program of events was a highly ambitious multidisciplinary arts and community project that was both process and project based. It was managed by the Public Art Office of Donegal County Council working in partnerhsip with the 28th Infantry Batallion of the Irish Defence Forces (which was established as the Border Batallion in 1973), Donegal County Museum, The Heritage Office of Donegal County Council, The Regional Cultural Centre and Organisation of Ex-Service men Teoranta (ONET). The project consisted of a number of different elements including a significant new stained-glass / contemporary glass window at the Oratory at the Finner Camp base of 28th Infantry Battalion of the Irish Defence Forces which was presented by Donegal County Council to the Irish Defence Forces in late April 2011.

In addition there was a wonderful and well attended exhibition at Donegal County Museum which looked at of the history of The Irish Defence Forces, especially the 28th Infantry Battalion. There was also an extensive education project both in the museum and in Donegal schools to interpret all aspects of the project. A special education pack was designed to mediate the exhibition and tours were designed especially for the primary school curriculum. There was also a new documentary about members of Organisation of National Ex-Servicemen Teoranta (ONET).


About Sharing Stories: Sharing Stories in a New Media Age is part of the wider IFI funded Sharing Stories, a two year cross-border community film project in County Donegal and Derry City organised by Donegal County Council Regional Cultural Centre and The Nerve Centre Derry. The sharing stories project includes 19 completed short films. They feature an incredibly varied range of topics and people and taken together, provide a very rich tapestry of life, past and present, in Donegal and Derry.


RockHill Remembered was commissioned as part of the project 'How We Remember' and The Sharing Stories Project. 'Rockhill Remembered' is a look inside the history of the Battalions stationed at Rockhill House, Letterkenny and was directed by Stephen McCollum and produced by Ronan McConnell.
